Metallic FX

Metallic FX is an amazing metallic epoxy floor coating system that escapes the boring mundane monotone confines of traditional resin flooring.  Metallic FX screams “LOOK AT ME, I’M SOMETHING SPECIAL”.

Resin Rustic

Resin Rustic is a little more reserved than Metallic FX.  It’s colour flows are more subtle and refined.  While Metallic FX is wanting to be the star of the show, Resin Rustic is more of a strong support act.  It’s special, but in an understated way.

What is a Metallic Epoxy Floor?

Unlike standard coloured epoxy, metallic epoxy suspends very fine metallic pigment particles in a clear high grade epoxy resin. These particles can vary is size and also suspend within the resin at different angles, therefore reflecting their colour in different tones.  If you look around and see where 2 walls meet at a corner, both walls can be painted the same colour, but they can look a different colour because of the angle the light hits them.  This is how one metallic colour can look like lots of shades of the colour.

BUT we can also take it a step further and either mix more than one colour into a kit of resin, OR add completely different colours to the floor and blend them there.  The possibilities are endless and every floor is totally unique.

Where can you use Metallic Epoxy?

Metallic FX is a decorative floor finish, so you can use it anywhere you want an attractive floor finish.

Epoxy is a very durable resin coating system, so it is suitable for showrooms, retail stores, office waiting rooms, studios, lounges, garages ….

Metallic epoxy floors are laid as a flow coat.  This means that the resin is able to smooth it’s surface and give a glass like finish.  This surface can be quite glossy and reflect the surrounding surfaces and lights.  Also being very glossy the surface will show scuffs scratches and dirty marks easily.

Many of our clients opt for a top coat of urethane.  Urethane has much better scuff and scratch resistance and can also be applied in Matt Satin or Gloss finish.  A urethane top coat also allows us to add a non slip grit for areas where this is required.

What's the difference between Metallic FX and Resin Rustic?

Metallic FX is made with 100% solvent free epoxy resin and metallic pigment.  After through surface preparation the floor is coated with a primer.  Once the primer is dry the metallic resin is mixed and spread across the floor.  Typically between .5mm and 1mm thick.  As we move the resin the pigment is floating in the resin and is reflecting light and colour tones.  The resin flows and smooths itself.  As long as the resin is moving, the look of the floor is changing – we call this the “melt”.  The tricky part of a metallic install is creating an effect and not have it melt away before the resin gels.

The Resin Rustic system has a blend of 2 pigments and fillers that make the whole system thicker.  The fillers create small undulations under the surface of the resin and the light pigment floats to the surface showing the contours. The Resin Rustic system is about 2mm thick and the effects are more subtle and subdued (and more predictable).

Colours

We have a number of suppliers we source colours from and what is in stock can vary a lot.

Because metallic pigments vary a lot depending on the angle they reflect light, it’s harder to define a colour.

Often it’s good for a client to find a photo on Google images that represents what they like – we will use this as inspiration.

NOTE every floor will look different.
